Fire Services Engineers
– More important now than ever
Recent tragedies are a wake-up call for the fire industry
The Grenfell Tower fire tragedy has been a wide wake-up call for the fire industry internationally and nationally. This is very similar to the Lacrosse apartment building in Melbourne which occurred in the early hours of 25 November 2014. This fire spread across levels 6 to 21 with many other apartments being water damaged over 400 people were required to evacuate the building, luckily with no fatalities.
The main cause of the Grenfell blaze has not been identified as yet but some experts have blamed the flammable cladding on the building’s exterior. Even though we do not specify the façade materials in our designs we play an active part in providing the essential fire safety measures in a building such as fire sprinkler protection and smoke detection systems to prevent such tragedies.
