ST GEORGE HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT
The new seven-storey St George Hospital Acute Services Building has been built on top of the original hospital’s emergency department on Gray Street, Kogarah.
The St George Hospital redevelopment project delivered 52 new beds for the ICU, eight more operating theatres, 128 new inpatient beds, two cardiac catheter laboratories, a sterilising department and a rooftop helipad. In addition to the new ASB building, there will be an expansion of the multi-storey carpark on Gray Street with 128 new car spaces.
The major clinical areas within the new ASB include cath labs, operating theatre suites, CSSD, acute care unit including the ICU, CICU and HDU, general inpatient units, administration, plant and circulation areas and additional clinical support.
This project employed an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) procurement method to provide a better outcome for the hospital. JHA was engaged by Multiplex to provide input during the ECI phase, develop a project brief based on agreed ECI outcomes, and subsequently provided oversight of the contractor’s detailed design.
JHA’s audio visual team coordinated with hospital staff, project management, multiple user groups and the architect to create the audio visual design and oversee the installation for 23 spaces. The audio visual designs involved systems ranging from video conferencing rooms, to large-scale interactive lecture theatres and networked, remote-control monitoring systems. JHA focussed on enhancing the flexibility and inter-room communication streams throughout the spaces in order to provide the hospital staff with the most technologically advanced, yet easy-to-use systems, allowing them to operate, store and share their practices throughout the hospital network.
